Halfway up China's coastline, Ningbo Port lies on the bank of the East Sea of China and next to Hangzhou Bay. Since China's reform and open-up of the 1980's, Ningbo Port has jumped from a regional inland port to a modern and all-rounded world-level grand port. The great goal of constructing the Oriental Super Port set up by Sun Yat-sun, a great man in the world, in his Plans of National Reconstruction, has now been made a reality.

According to the planning of port construction in the Yangtze River Delta approved by the state Council and the strategic decision made by Zhejiang Provincial government to build a great water transport province, by 2010, Ningbo Port will be built into a chief transshipping base for container, iron ore, crude oil, coal and liquid chemical products as well as a port logistic information platform, with cargo throughput exceeding 350 million tons and container throughput surpassing 11 million TEU.
Full of hope and challenges, the 21th century is the century of the sea. Shipping industry will make greater contributions to the sustainable development of mankind and the society. Under such circumstances, we will bear the future in mind, keep pace with the times, seize opportunities, accelerate development and make arduous efforts to build Ningbo Port into a multi-functional, all-rounded, modernized and world first-class deep-water hub port and a main line port for ocean-going international container transport.
